The Paq Chair Bed is not just a piece of furniture; it is a solution to the modern-day challenge of space utilization. The design's strength lies in its simplicity and versatility. With a single zipper move, the armchair unfolds into a comfortable bed, complete with a built-in storage unit for bedding. When not in use as a bed, the storage unit helps maintain the chair's round and solid seating area.
maform's design team, led by Geza Csire, L Peter Molnar, and Robert Kovacs, drew inspiration from resource limitations and paper folding techniques. The team experimented with various approaches before arriving at the final solution, which turned out to be simpler than expected: one connection and one fold were enough to transform a mattress into a chair.
The realization of the Paq Chair Bed involved overcoming several technical challenges. Scaling the paper folds to furniture-size and ensuring the product could withstand the weight and forces of a user were among the hurdles the team had to overcome. The final product, however, remained simple and lightweight, embodying the essence of minimalist design.
Launched in late 2016, the Paq Chair Bed has already garnered significant recognition in the design world. It was awarded the Silver A' Furniture Design Award in 2017, a prestigious accolade given to designs that exhibit outstanding expertise and innovation. The award further solidifies the Paq Chair Bed's position as a top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable design.
The Paq Chair Bed is more than just a piece of furniture; it's a testament to the power of innovative design. By transforming a simple idea into a functional, versatile, and aesthetically pleasing product, maform has set a new standard for furniture design. The Paq Chair Bed is not just a product; it's a solution to the modern-day challenge of space utilization, and a testament to the power of innovative design.
